What is TOPCon Technology?

 
TOPCon technology introduction
Tunnel oxide passivated contact solar cell (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact solar cell, TOPcon) is a new type of passivated contact solar cell that was first proposed by the German Fraunhofer Solar Energy Research Institute at the 28th European PVSEC Photovoltaic Conference in 2013. A 1-2nm tunneling oxide layer is prepared on the back of the battery, and then a layer of doped polysilicon is deposited. The two together form a passivation contact structure and provide a good interface passivation for the back of the silicon wafer.
 
TOPCon theoretical limit efficiency
The ultimate efficiency of the battery composed of different electron/hole selective contact materials is 28.7%, and the current maximum conversion efficiency of the full-area battery reaches 25.4%. The biggest attraction of TOPCon is that it can retain and utilize the traditional P-type battery equipment manufacturing process to the maximum extent, and can upgrade and transform traditional PERC equipment, and the single GW transformation cost is about 60-80 million yuan. Therefore, traditional companies such as LONGi, Jinko, and Trina are relatively more active in the layout of TOPCon. TOPCon's main new equipment is LPCVD/PECVD equipment for amorphous silicon deposition and coating equipment.
